Are you a clumsy person who tends to spill things frequently? Do you often find yourself in a doomsday-like scenario when you spill your drink on your keyboard? Fear not, we have got you covered with some great tips to help you survive the aftermath of a keyboard-spill.
First and foremost, it's essential to be prepared for such incidents. Learn how to disassemble your keyboard, which will come in handy in case you spill liquid on it.
If you own a Dygma Raise, check out our iFixit guide on how to disassemble and reassemble it, if you have a different keyboard, refer to the manufacturer's guide for your keyboard model.
Now, let's move on to the actual recommendations to help you survive the spill doomsday.
Tip #1: Hands up!
When you spill liquids on your keyboard, don't panic and start cleaning it right away. This can make things worse by pressing keys and allowing the liquid to reach the electronics. Just leave things as they are and proceed to our next tip.
Tip #2: Unplug it!
Unplug your keyboard as soon as possible to stop the possibility of a short circuit that could damage the electronics. When liquid gets in contact with the circuit, it creates unintended "shortcuts" that can mess up your keyboard's electronics
Tip #3: Dry the electronics.
Disassemble your keyboard and put the plastic and mechanical parts aside. Focus on the electronics and dry them as soon as possible. Use a hairdryer to dry the circuit, or absorb the water with a dry cloth and leave the pieces to dry.
If you've spilled other liquids like coffee, milk, or soda, clean the electronics with Isopropyl alcohol or ethyl alcohol at 96%.
Tip #4: Dry everything else.
While your electronics are drying, clean the keys, panels, and other parts using window cleaner, which dries quickly and leaves no trace on plastic or metal. If you've spilled something oily, first clean it with dish soap and water before using the window cleaner.
Remember to leave everything to dry completely before reassembling your keyboard.
Being clumsy can be a risk factor, but with these tips, you can be prepared to survive a keyboard-spill doomsday. Don't let the fear of spilling your drink ruin your workday!
